Hello -

I'm having trouble with your USB programmer and am hopping that you can help me out.

I Installed your software on a Win7 x64 computer and as far as I can tell it's working correctly. I then plugged in the FTDI chip and it automatically installed the drivers like FTDI's website said it would. I can see it at com port 1 in the Windows Device Manger. When I open up your software it can't find the Programmer as seen below (I also tried selecting the programmer and port as well without any luck):

Quote:
Autodetecting Programmer ...
Error opening LPT driver!
No Programmer found! Check connection!
No PIC detected!

One of the differences that know of is that I'm using a UM245R demo board which uses the 245R rather then the 245BL. The R is the newest version of the BL, but when I called FTDI they said they were interchangeable. Is this why it's not working? Or am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks for any advice or help!

Hi,

I have just assembled the same setup as you, UM245R module with FT245RL chipset. Device manager shows it as a serial port. PicPGM program does not recognize the device.

Hi,
have you installed the "FTDI D2XX driver"?
PICPgm does not use the serial port, it uses the D2XX interface.

Christian

Hello. :oops:
I have the same problem as topic starter... FTDI now provide combined drivers for their hardware, so VCP and direct access USB driver comes together. I have tried 2.08.30 and older 2.06.00, in device manager i had USB serial converter and virtual COM1. But PicPgm didn't find programmer. Also i have tried to remove virtual COM1, but it does not take effect. Help me, please, where i have a mistake? probably there is a way to check, that the programmer was assembled clearly?

Hello together,

starting from PICPgm 1.8.0.0 I have introduced a new feature to debug such problems.

PICPgm Windows (GUI version):
In the menu, use "Hardware => List connected FTDI USB devices" which will list all FTDI USB devices connected on the PC running PICPgm.
So please try if at least the FTDI USB device is found properly. This makes sure that the FTDI driver is installed properly.

PICPgm command line version (Linux, Windows):
Use the option "-listusb" to list all connected FTDI USB devices:
Code:
picpgm -listusb

If this shows your FTDI USB device, then at least the FTDI D2XX device driver is installed properly an there is a problem in with the programmer circuit or the connection to the target PIC.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Christian

Could you post a schematic of how you have connected the programmer to you PIC?
I assume the connects from the programmer to the target are not proper ...

i have made the following connections

Connector PIN No 3-------->MCLR-----------> PIN1 (PIC16F887 PIN)
Connector PIN No 4 ------>ICSPDAT ----> PIN40 (PIC16F887 PIN)
Connector PIN No 5------->ICSPCLOCK----> PIN39(PIC16F887 PIN)
Connector PIN No 3-------->MCLR-----------> PIN1(PIC16F887 PIN)
VCC and GND

is there any other connections i need to make as per the below pdf should i have to change any settings in the PGM software

i ma getting the following msg when i check for FTDI

Listing connected FTDI USB devices:
USB0: FT232B / FT245B
description = "USB <-> Serial"

Hi,

you have to connect the PGM pin!
If you use the PICPgm USB programmer you can only program the PIC via LVP (low voltage programming), hence you have to use the PGM pin.

See a typical connection at http://picpgm.picprojects.net/hardware.html, chapter "PIC circuit for usage with LVISP programmer".

Regards.
