I have a Chinese JDM programmer that the PICPgn will not recognise. This programmer with this system on the same computer did the whole job with great ease some years ago.

What can cause this problem, has an upgrade inadvertently changed the recognition, I have tried autodetect and entering the detail, but the programmer is not detected.

Thanks for your response. The programmer in question has done a wonderful job with this excellent system in the past. This is only the third time of attempting its use, the power up LED lights up, but the message at the bottom of the screen states "no programmer found." Thus my question - has an update in the past 5 years caused an unintended change to the recognition scope.

Hi Paul,

is a chip inside the JDM programmer?
If yes, remove it and try it again.

If it is still not working, try to select the COM port the programmer is connected to manually, instead auf autodetection (Menu => Hardware => Hardware Selection/Configuration ...).

Regards,
Christian

Christian,
Thanks for your response, the programmer has only diodes and resistors plus 2 transistors no chip.
However looking at the lead it looks to contain something, I will open this up and see.

I will report findings.

Sorry, I was not precise enough:
Quote:

What I ment which this statement: Is a PIC connected to the JDM?

Also try the manual selection of the COM port.

Christian

Christian, I had not seen your latest comment and went ahead on inspecting the USB - programmer lead. The programmer end was moulded onto and over a PCB, with component density even greater than the programmer PIC holding board! In investigating this I have destroyed the lead. This is a great pity as the holding board is a well made and clean unit.

Regarding your question- I had tried with and without a PIC in the unit and had worked my way thro' the various ports.

Well looks like a new programmer is needed if it were still available I would buy the same again it worked so well with your system and with such ease.

Thanks again for your interest and guidance.
